It is a process that allows a group with common interests and goals to visualize and examine the key factors necessary to build and enhance the group's leadership capacity and technical ability.

Sample Workshop Agenda

9:00 Registration
9:15 Introduction
Discuss the workshop's purpose and anticipated outcomes as well as an introduction of participants and their expectations for the day.
9:30 How are we doing?
Presentation of data summarizing how the organization or group is doing.
10:00 Vision
Through a large group discussion, a vision for the will be explored.
10:45 Break
11:00 Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats Analysis
Through small group discussion, items in each of these categories will be identified and shared with the large group.
11:45 Mission
The group will review the mission of the organization.
12:15 Lunch
12:45 Key Issues and Priorities
Participants will identify key issues and set priorities through large and small group discussions.
1:30 Goals for the Key Issues
Small groups will be formed around the key issues and the participants will begin to develop goals for the issues.
2:15 Strategies and Action Steps
Small groups will begin to develop strategies - the who, what, when, and how - to implement the goals determined in the previous session.
3:00 Presentation of Recommended Strategies
3:30 Conclusion: What's Next?
Follow-up steps will be discussed such as developing task groups, setting meeting times, drafting strategies, and setting deadlines for the process.
4:00 Adjourn

Workshop follow-up is also offered and includes:

  • Written draft of the workshop outcomes
  • Optional follow-up session to evaluate how the group is progressing on the adoption and implementation of its plan.
