Tom Fryer is a community volunteer in Manhattan, KS. Past President of the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation (GMCF), he is a current member of the Tax Credit Task Force of the Kansas Association of Community Foundations (KACF). His work with the GMCF began in the early 1990’s where he served on their initial Investment Committee. He is a current member of their Executive Committee. Tom had two 21-year careers before his retirement in 2005. He was an officer and pilot in the United States Air Force, and served a combat tour in 1966 flying the F4C Phantom for 102 missions over North Vietnam. Most of his flying career was as an Instructor Pilot in Air Training Command. He spent 3 ½ years in the Department of Mathematics at the USAF Academy, and his last assignment was commanding Air Force ROTC at Kansas State University. Banking and brokerage with Manhattan’s Union National/Commerce Bank was Tom’s second career. Much of his brokerage work was helping clients with retirement and estate planning. His Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation from that career continues to be of benefit in his volunteer work with community foundations. |
